"I meant to tell mankind to aspire to a new state about which I could tell them little or nothing, to teach them to tread a long and lonely path which might or might not lead thither, to bid them dare to encounter all possible perils of nature unknown, to abandon all their settled manners of living and cut themselves off from their past and their environment, and to attempt a quixotic adventure with no resources beyond their native strength and sagacity. I had done it myself and found not only that the pearl of great price was worth far more than I possessed, but that the very perils and privations of the quest were themselves my dearest memories. I was certain of this at least: that nothing in the world except this was worth doing." (Aleister Crowley)
About This Website
This website is dedicated to the documentation and sharing of my outdoor adventures. When I tell friends or family about my trips they either call me crazy or they're extremely envious of the fun I've had or both. After an amazing trip I have always promised myself to organize my notes and photos and then write and publish a trip report. In reality this never quite comes to fruition. It's now my hope that by sharing this website, it will help me to better document the fun I'm having on these great trips. I would also like to think that in sharing these stories, it will inspire others to have adventures of their own or resonate with those who have climbed these lines or found themselves in similar situations.
Why Climb?
George Mallory famously responded when asked why he wanted to climb Mt. Everest, "Because it's there". I've always liked that quote, but when thinking about it again, I find that's not quite true. If I was asked that same question, my appropriate response would probably be "To see if I can". Climbing, like many other sports, pushes you to your limits. Many times you find your body and your mind will go far beyond what you ever expected. When I climb, my focus is so strong that all I can manage to think about is the present moment. You can't afford to let your mind wander like you would if you were out for a run. Your focus and confidence in your ability need to be sharp and unwavering, and even then sometimes you still fail. Yet this drive to go right up to the point of failure, or even stretch that point, keeps me thinking, dreaming and wanting to climb as much as possible. That's why I climb.
